How to Calculate FIDE Ratings

The FIDE rating system uses the Elo formula to calculate a player's chess rating based on their performance. The K-factor (40, 20, or 10) determines the magnitude of rating changes. Enter your current rating, opponent ratings, and game results to get an accurate estimate instantly.

Calculation Method:

  • Expected Score: Calculated as 1 / (1 + 10^((opponent rating - your rating) / 400)) per game.
  • Rating Change: K-factor × (Actual Score - Expected Score) summed over all games.
  • New Rating: Current rating + total rating change, rounded to the nearest integer.

Example:
Current Rating: 1800, K-factor: 20
Opponent Rating: 1900, Result: Win (1)
Expected Score: 1 / (1 + 10^((1900 - 1800) / 400)) ≈ 0.36
Rating Change: 20 × (1 - 0.36) = 12.8
New Rating: 1800 + 12.8 ≈ 1813
